Formed in 1979, Nottingham Medics RUFC has a proud history of playing competitive rugby against teams from across the UK and creating a strong social network that extends right from our 1st years to alumni.

We currently field three rugby teams that take part in regular fixtures. Our 1st XV and 2nd XV sides compete in the NAMS (National Association of Medical Schools) cup, against other medics rugby teams across the UK. We also participate in one of the Midlands Counties 3 leagues, with regular fixtures every Saturday.

In addition to our 1st and 2nd XV sides, our first and second year students play in an intramural sport (IMS) league against other societies every Wednesday afternoon. This ensures that all new members get plenty of game time and the opportunity to earn their spot in the 1st and 2nd teams.

 

In the summer months we take part in a number of 7s tournaments across the UK, including NAMS 7s which we hope to win this year.

Our teams have enjoyed a wealth of success recently. This year both our 1st and 2nd XV sides were crowned NAMS champions, after several years of narrowly missing out in the finals. Furthermore, after winning the 2020/21 IMS league, this year's IMS team reached the final once again.

We have one of the best social scenes of any sports society at the University of Nottingham, with socials taking place every Wednesday. 

​

We train twice a week (Tuesdays 9pm-10pm and Thursdays 7pm-8:30pm) with the Tuesday sessions being held at Gresham 3G facility, and the Thursday sessions at Nottingham Casuals Rugby Club (which is where we also play our home games).

​

Being part of NMRUFC does not end upon graduation. Each year we hold two events with our Alumni - a summer 7s tournament and a November fixture followed by a black-tie dinner.
